As the Spring and Summer seasons approach, please be aware that we have wildlife here in the neighborhood. Bears, elk and coyotes are common. Please take time to read a helpful brochure on bear safety (linked at the bottom of this post). Some additional safety tips to protect our wildlife include:
- When driving through the neighborhood, please slow down! Winding roads can make it difficult to stop in time if there are people or wildlife on the road; especially when driving fast. Please try to stay within the speed limit.
- Please be mindful when you’re walking or hiking in the area; as well as being out in your yard. It’s always advantageous to have a plan, in the event you encounter wildlife. It’s best if you walk with at least one other person. Carrying a walking stick or horn is also prudent. In the event you encounter wildlife, DO NOT APPROACH!!!
- Please DO NOT leave BBQ grills unattended & clean your grill as soon as possible after cooking. DO NOT leave food/ trash outside; make sure you secure any trash you may have. Leaving birdseed/ pet food outside also attracts wildlife; so please DO NOT leave these unattended.
- If you encounter wildlife, please inform NC Fish & Game Department of their location immediately. Inform your neighbors.
